Made for the Holojam #2 - Hololive Fan Game Jam.

WARNING: After getting feedback from players after the game was submitted to the Jam,  I found out that the game is actually insanely, unfairly difficult. Especially so for players unused to platformers. Because of this, the game may be impossible for some people to reach the ending which is not what I intended at all... As the creator of the game, I judged the difficulty of the game for myself, but not for other people, which is a huge mistake and failure on my part. A SEPERATE new version has been made that will be easier and beatable for players of all skill levels. If you manage to reach the ending in this version however, thank you so much, and incredible job. This version of the game will remain available as it is the one that was submitted to the game jam, but also if you want an immense challenge for yourself. There will be no additional content included in this version compared to the new one.

For the new version, check The Biboo Tax by Halfpot (itch.io). There will be no further updates for this initial game jam submission.

Biboo (Koseki Bijou) is in serious trouble.

Nanashi Mumei heard one too many cringy meme songs coming from Biboo's mouth, and she went berserk, transforming into a horrifying apparition. Biboo must escape before Mumei makes her pay a very unpleasant 'senpai tax'.

Take control of Biboo and platform through gruelling long 2D levels being chased by a ghastly and enraged Mumei. If Biboo is caught, only unspeakable things could occur.

Thankfully, Biboo is far from alone. The other Hololive members and pebbles are willing to offer their assistance. Take advantage of everything so that Biboo may survive.

Controls:

  1. A - Move Left
  2. D - Move Right
  3. W - Talk to NPC
  4. Spacebar - Jump (Tap for short hop, hold for full jump)
  5. Mouse - Aiming / Throwing/Progressing Dialogue
  6. Escape - Menu

Game was developed using Godot 4.2 engine.

Most art/sound assets were made by me.

Specific sound assets like voice clips were found and used from streams of Hololive members.

Honestly real props to you, you're the MVP in this Game Jam to me. Story, Art, Music, Level Design, Gameplay top-notch. Your cutscenes and animations were really well done too! I loved the insane amount of detail in Mumei's animations.

I also loved and desperately cringed at your dialogue (so good job). Great Hololive References, great design and easy to understand gameplay.

I really love your game but also fuck you for the difficulty, holy shit. I needed like 3h + a Cheeseburger to beat it. Great work on the easier version, beat it in maybe 5minutes after I finished the initial version. I think it's still very enjoyable despite being far easier.

Thank you for the great game and fuck you for (in a positive way... kinda)

Really cool game!

Very fun references and dialogues.

The difficulty level was too hard for me (only made it to the second checkpoint) but I'll check out the toned down version!

Great game!

This is really good! I love the mechanic with throwing the pebbles around. I made it up to the 3rd sanctuary but the really tight platforming section with Mumei going nearly as fast as you are is maybe a bit too difficult for me.

The dialogue is fun too, definitely going to come back and try to finish it! An excellent entry to this jam.

For as difficult as this version was (this is like clearing E12S Savage in FFXIV I swear), I honestly really enjoyed the challenge! Bear in mind I'm not one that usually rages at these sorts of games. How long did I take? No comment.

Could actually be good to have the difficulty toggleable / selectable?

  • The dual-directionality of the gravity plates towards the end tripped me up a bit! Not used to a platformer that does that... I like it!
  • The dialogue is just pitch-perfect. Chef's Kiss. Probably could have trimmed some of the dialogue FX clips even shorter for the others (or have them cut the previous one), but was hilarious.
  • Shiori save me... Shiori... save me Shiori... (I had no pebbles, and spent another 10 minutes working to save a pebble to clear it)
  • The very retro font on the music & SFX (and Mumei headbanging to the deranged but catchy tune she was humming) was very touching.
  • I'm not going to be able to unsee the faintest shadow of Nightmare Mumei looming behind my computer screen for a while...
  • If you had more time, I would've loved to see more dense art in the parallax or across the levels! Would keep me from going insane tackling the same sequence 324 times, anyway.

TL;DR: GOATED 🗿

If you have a Twitter, making a light gameplay trailer would be fantastic to pitch across Biboo's World... I kinda wanna pitch her to play this in a SC I'm ngl LOL

Great game, last level was challenging.
Give it a shot lads.
