Rampaging Sakuya (Fake Flash Game Edition)
Made for the Touhou Fan Game Jam 13 - Retrospective
Synopsis
After sleeping on the job yet again, Meiling finds herself face-to-face with a very angry Sakuya. She is then chased under a barrage of knives through the Scarlet Devil Mansion.
In this game that imitates classic 2000s browser flash games, control Meiling to avoid Sakuya's knives which are thrown to the beat of the song in short arcade-style rhythm gameplay inspired by Bit.Trip Runner, Muse Dash, and various endless runners. The difficulty massively spikes over the course of the song, so there is no lose condition. Just focus on dodging as many knives as you possibly can! Can you dodge them all?
This game is a recreation of this video: (3) [HD] Touhou - The SDM! (Rampaging Sakuya) - YouTube. Check it out if you haven't already.
Controls
- W/Up Arrow: Jump
- S/Down Arrow: Slide
- L: Quick Restart (Skips cutscene and straight to beginning of knife barrage)
- M: Return to Main Menu Screen
Known Bugs
- Irregularly occurring issue on the browser version where the game does not progress for unknown reasons, leaving the player softlocked at certain periods during gameplay. Refresh the browser and restart the game for this bug. You may also use the Windows executable as it is more stable.
- Minimizing the browser window while the game is running may have unintended effects or cause softlocks. Please avoid doing so.
Post Jam Update - The Windows download for the original jam submission failed to run. An emergency update was performed to fix this. Please keep in mind the currently available Windows file is post-jam.
Sorry for the bugs, I didn't allocate enough time during the jam for debugging builds... Definitely something I need to consider more heavily in future.
Credits
This is a solo dev project. I really gotta stop tormenting myself like this...
I used the Godot 4.2 Game Engine, Krita, and Reaper DAW to create this game.

The instruments are from a free sound library (Soft Piano, Glass Piano, Drums) used by the LABS plugin by Spitfire Audio. More info at Virtual Instruments — LABS (spitfireaudio.com).
Links to the remixed music on youtube are as follows:
- Night of Nights (Flowering nights remix) By COOL&CREATE/beatMARIO
- Huge credit goes to Synthesia: COOL&CREATE - Night of Nights | Marasy's Version | Piano Tutorial +MIDI (youtube.com) by EpreTroll for the piano midi file. I could not have recreated night of nights within a reasonable time frame without this. I added modifications, alternative instruments, and new tracks to the final audio render as needed. If there are any issues with this, please let me know!
- PoFV Sakuya's Theme: Flowering Night
Used audio that wasn't made by me. I just could not find any information on copyright or licensing for these sound effects, so please let me know if there's any issues:
All audio is forcefully compressed for the max flash audio experience.
Thank you so much for playing!
